Book Reviews of A Breath of Snow and Ashes (Outlander)Book Review: Bravo! Summary: 5 Stars
Bravo to Diana Gabaldon for getting back on track! I have to agree with alot of people who said Fiery Cross was not good at all - I had problems getting through it, there were no exciting plots or the feeling that I just had to keep reading. I especially didn't like how the first 250(?) pages were devoted to that one day at the Gathering - extremely boring and longwinded! But, being the avid fan that I am, I just had to plod my way through it to get to the next one. And it was worth it! A Breath of Snow and Ashes brought me right back to the exciting action, plots and twists and turns! ABOSAA definitely kept my interest throughout the book. I've laughed and cried many times, and could almost feel the anguish Claire felt many times throughout the story. There have been many nights that I've stayed up late, all because I just couldn't bear to put the book down. It saddens me that I am almost to the end of this book, as another one of the series is not out yet. I do know that this series will get another 1 or 2 readovers by me!
Book Review: Another hit for Jamie & Claire Summary: 5 Stars
Seriously, could there ever be a doubt about this series. Gabaldon is such a good writer. If you haven't read these books, go back to Outlander and start at the beginning. I know they're thick, but normally Outlander alone would have taken me three months. I finished all of the first three in a month's time and have been captivated by this story ever since. In this sixth novel in the series, you'll find out more about the next generation, and there's a big surprise ending. Best of all, the way things are left made it a virtual impossibility that this would be the last book. (I believe Diana has said there will be two more--but you know how that goes!!! And I'm sure none of us devoted readers will be sad to hear her say that, and even write more if necessary.) In the days when I was working in a bookstore, I must have started 200 people on these books. To this day I've had precisely 2 people tell me they didn't like them. "A Breath of Snow & Ashes" is Ms. Gabaldon's latest triumph. Don't miss these books!!!!!
Book Review: Another great Outlander series book! Summary: 5 Stars
I adore Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. I wasn't too thrilled with Voyager, but she's certainly back on track with this book! I just couldn't put it down until it was finished. Can't wait for the next one, which. may or may not. be the last book of the series.
Gabaldon is certainly hard to categorize. Unfortunately, in the beginning Outlander was put in the Romance section. This book was put in the SciFi section. In reality, this series is great historical fiction with a time travel connection, terrific action & wonderful family relationships, as well as a terrific romance that underlies it all. I think she should just be placed in the Fiction sections because the genre listings confuse people & cause that to keep people from experiencing her great prose & uncatalizable writing that would interest loads of people. Terrific book, but please read the whole series from the beginning.
Book Review: Outstanding Summary: 5 Stars
I admit I started at the wrong end of this series by reading this book first. But Gabaldon explains enough in this book that I easily understood what went before. This is a fantastic read with a historical background pre-Revolutionary War and characters that are appealing and romantic. I simply did not want this book to end. Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his time-traveling wife Claire see the colonial uprisings that lead to the Revolutionary War in different perspectives. Claire because she knows what will happen and Jamie because he must turn from his loyalty to England and become loyal to the call for liberty. But once Jamie turns his back on the Loyalists, his name is added to a list of traitors which places Jamie, and his small community on Fraser's Ridge, in danger. Now I plan to go back to the first and read them in order. Outstanding!
Book Review: Number 6 of ... (it's not over yet!!!!) Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this book as much as the previous 5. As has been said by others, Diana has a real gift for delivering extremely marvelous richness and detail in her writing. And she is FUNNY!! - there are passages in nearly all her books that make me laugh out loud each and every time I experience them. Listen to her books on Audio - Recorded Books has all of them unabridged - for a new and wholly different experience. This is what iPods were made for!!!!!
And just to set the record straight: Contrary to what another review has posted here: this is not, repeat NOT the last book in the Outlander Series. There will be at least one, if not two, more in the series before Diana ends it. Yes, it will end someday, but that day has not yet arrived, much less passed.
Hooray!!!! Thanks, Diana, and you go, girl!!!!!
