Book Review: Claire's medical practices, herbs, and Fergus's rules of childbirth

I have not read the first 5 books of the Outlander series. Swore for the first few hours when I tried reading the hard-covered A Breath of Snow and Ashes in bed. The cover kept on poking my breast.
At first I wondered what I was reading, but at some point, I became captured. I have been fascinated by the use of herbs in Claire's "surgery," putting honey into the mortar, building the clay pipes for the water, by Monsieur's L'Oeuf's birth, particularly by Fergus's knowledge of childbirth a la French brothels.
Many reviewers are complaining of multiple rape scenes, out-of-wedlock births, and torrid love scenes. At page 300-and-something, the dwarf was born. Only Claire has been raped and Mrs. Bug has smothered LB, and I have not run across any love scenes, torrid or not. I envy Claire for having found a truly supportive male.
Remarkable is Diana Galbadon's ferreting out words from yesteryear. Had I more time to set aside for pleasurable reading, I would have made a list of them or kept my humungous Merriam-Webster dictionary (2d version) at my bedside.
Having another 600+ pages to read, I do wonder how Galbadon will fill them. I am hoping to see something about time-traveling. Other than meeting Donner, another time-traveler, I've seen nothing about how time-traveling is accomplished. I'm curious about the relevance of time-traveling to the book. Maybe it is just a tool to explain how Claire has more in-depth knowledge about medicine than the other folks in her 18th century community have.
Having read some of the reviews, I shall try to find paperbacks of the first few books in the series.
