Book Review: A buzz of a book
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a lovely book about winning, persevering and friendship for kids. There are ten kids in the spelling club getting ready for a spelling bee including Kate and Jake who are best friends. Wishinsky paints a realistic portrait of how competition can not only bring out the best in people/kids, but also how when you are competing against a friend it can introduce tension into the friendship. She also effectively explores the emotions that go into competing in a contest. The kids and choices in the story are real which makes the book an effective story!

Kate is determined to win her spelling club's spelling bee, but the competition is fierce. She can almost put up with Violet's relentless claims of superior spelling ability, but when Kate and Jake begin to fight with each other, Kate is miserable. She wants to win the contest, but she doesn't want to lose her best friend.(20050901)
