Book Reviews of 50 Easy Classical Guitar SolosBook Review: Fun, good tunes, easy, yet progressive Summary: 4 Stars
I recently decided to take up classical guitar on my own after playing piano most of my life and diddling around with electric and acoustic guitars. While this book doesn't give any instruction, it is progressive, starting out with extremely simple pieces and working up to easy yet more complex works. Half way through, the pieces require special fingering, and the tablature and notation help show how it's done. I'd give the book five stars since it delivers what its title describes, but I think the book could have been prefaced with some intro to fingerings and other beginner techniques. Nevertheless, there are many books that cover that issue. The songs in this book have mostly a nice Spanish sound to them, and I have really enjoyed working on them. I'd recommend this book to any beginner, hobbiest, etc.
Book Review: Good for beginner Summary: 4 Stars
I started playing classical guitar a little over a year ago and purchased this book to break up practicing excecises and scales with something that actually sounds like music. I thought this book did just what I wanted. The book starts out with easy songs and gradually builds but all of the songs are fairly easy. Only a few have fingering in upper positions but does include hammer on's and pull-offs. Some of the chords have been simplified for less experienced fingers. The CD is good in allowing the student to understand how the music should sound-even if I may never get up to the speeds indicated.
Book Review: Who are you? Summary: 4 Stars
If you are a classical player, you probably shouldn't be picking up a classical book with "easy" in the title, don't you think? I'm a fingerpicker, and when I get stuck in a merle travis rut, this book is a great way to get out of it. Nothing all that hard, but well presented and chosen.
My only complaints are the same as some other reviewers: the biographies would be better replaced with some technical notes (if I feel the sudden need to read about Sor's life, there's always Google). Also, wire-bound would be nice so I wouldn't have to prop up my tuner and a beer can to hold the book open.
Book Review: Great for a beginner Summary: 4 Stars
The songs are easy and sound fine. This is much better than sticking to scales wishing you could play an actual piece.
Two really annoying things are that 1) the pages don't state the track number on the CD so you can't easily hear what the piece sounds like (the tracks on the CD are not in the same order as the pages of the book) and, 2) the first couple pages would have been better spent giving a simple treatment of finger picking.
Book Review: Good fro beginners Summary: 4 Stars
This books is good for beginners, if you have some experience playing guitar the songs are very simple (boring?)
