I'm unsure what to make of this collection. On the plus side, these plays, many less than a page long, are punchy and incisive. They pack a mighty wallop. Many are theatrical gems that capture nuggets of power without descending into SNL gimmickry. Their humor and pathos make me as a trained actor want to join their troupe.
But most are so symbolic, high-flown, or arty-farty that they put the lie to the claim that these are real events. And without that authenticity, what do the performers have other than the stunt of packing thirty plays into sixty minutes? When you read the scripts off the flat page, the shine goes off that apple in a real hurry.
There's a reason many revue scripts never get printed: they just don't work as literature. That's true here, too. Though I appreciate the concept, and this book is almost worth its price for the manifesto appended to the front, I have a hard time on balance wanting to go back and reread them. Perhaps I should just go see the show.

The third book collection of scripts from The-Neo-Futurists' cult theatre phenomenon Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind features 200 short plays written by the 27 different Neo-Futurist authors who were members of the ensemble from 1993-2002.This collection emphasizes plays with parts for multiple performers, both male and female - from dialogue plays for two voices to active group pieces involving a dozen or more performers. Some pieces even allow the entire audience to get in on the act!
