Book Reviews of 20 Master Plots: And How to Build Them

Book Review: It's helping me out constantly
Summary: 4 Stars

This book is a really great help to me, a young writer. The book doesn't promise to solve all of my plotting problems for me, it makes me think! I'm constantly learning something about plotting each time I pick it up. (Now I need to buy a style guide....) Great buy-

My only complaint is that its sometimes too repetitive. In one chapter he said the same thing 4 different ways! Though I must admit, it did help me remember and understand a little bit better.

Book Review: Great intro to plot building
Summary: 4 Stars

While this comes off as a literary cook book, it really isn't. Tobias simply gives aspiring fiction writers a series of common plot patterns that have been used for hundreds (or thousands) of years. He also describes the relationships between the various patterns. Creativity and intelligence will always be essential for the development of quality fiction. Tobias just helps clarify the basics for beginner writers.

Book Review: WORTH STUDYING
Summary: 4 Stars

20 MASTER PLOTS (And How to Build Them), by Ronald B. Tobias, provides an interesting analysis of plot, in general, and then a chapter-by-chapter countdown of twenty specific master-plot scenarios. Whether you believe there are really only one or two basic plots upon which all stories are built, or whether you believe there are an infinite number of plots, 20 MASTER PLOTS is worth studying.

Book Review: More than a how-to....
Summary: 4 Stars

I was very pleased to find that this "how-to" guide is actually a very well written introduction to and analysis of the major plots found in all storytelling media in our culture.
The writing is crisp, enjoyable, accessible, yet also deep with critical insights valuable to any writer or wannabe.
I've already recommended it to several friends without hesitation! Read, learn, apply, enjoy!

Book Review: Helpful
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a helpful book for the writer to own. However, imagination and courage is something that can not be learnt. But if you already have these attributes than this is a book is one you that you should read.
