Book Reviews of 1945Book Review: In desperate need of a sequel Summary: 4 StarsDont kid yourself, this book is good. The historical characters in the book are, guess what, IN CHARACTER!. Being somewhat of a bigraphical and historical buff, I was sceptical but by the middle of the book I was unable to put it down. The biggest disappointment is that it ran out of pages at the hight of my interest.
Book Review: compares well with other alternate histories. Summary: 4 StarsWhen I first saw this book, I thought that there was no way that germay could have stayed out of WW2 and so I was sceptical going in. Having read many books of this type as well as other science fiction and fantasy (Average of 1 per day) I can say that this rates very high on my list, and I will watch eagerly for sequels. The way the authors concieve of keeping germany from declaring war on the U.S.A. was plausable and could very well have happened. A rate of 5 stars however needs a compleation which this book lacks. If the sequels ever get written and if they turn out as well as the start, then I will probaly give a 5 stars for the series.
Book Review: Amateur start - terrific ending Summary: 4 StarsBeing English, and also an avid reader of history, I was very interested to get an American's viewpoint on a European war. I found the style of writing at first a bit amateurish but by the middle I was enthralled. At the end I couldn't put it down( this usually happens with Robert Ludlum books) due to the increased pace of the story, the familiarity of the characters and the interesting details that were emerging based on historical fact. I've only given it 4 stars as the disappointment in not being able to read a sequel was very hard to bear. So come on Newt, you said the book was to be continued, don't behave like a politician and start breaking promises..
Book Review: Entertaining read Summary: 4 StarsThis book got me so much into it that I read it in one sitting! It had an interesting, fast-paced plot and a soap-opera, "pulpy" feeling to it. If you are looking for a serious read you might as well read a book about the real WWII. I did not give it 5 stars because near the end it becomes too technical and dry (I skimmed those sections without spoling my enjoyment, though). Of course, right-wing politics permeate throughout the book but this happens in a subtle, non-distracting way. Fun read, strongly recommended.
Book Review: Excellent book...Disappointed at the lag time for sequel!!! Summary: 5 StarsI don't read as much as I should, but when I do I want it to be a story like this. This was my first foray into alternative history subjects and I found the events and story line extremely plausible based on my knowlege of WWII. I enjoyed the book tremendously and was extremely disappointed when I found the story was to be continued in the next book. This not being enough of an injury, we have all been waiting years for the next issue. I also understand there may be actually 2 more books before this story is through. Somebody needs to get Forstchen back to work on this project he has left hanging for far too long!
