This is a silly book that my kids really enjoyed. My kids are ages 3 & 5-both liked it.
Book Review: Silly & Fun! Summary: 4 Stars
If you're looking for a serious book about Thanksgiving, then 10 Fat Turkeys is not the book for you. This book is about ten fat turkeys walking along a fence, when one by one they fall, break the fence, and perch on a tree instead. It's funny, and intended to appeal to the very young, or young at heart. The illustrations are bright, and bold, and will appeal to young children say 1 to 5-years. My son laughs when I read this book, and now at five he's starting to read it to himself.
10 Fat Turkey's mimics the pattern in Melanie Gerth's, Ten Little Ladybugs, although Gerth's book is sweet, this work is just plain silly.
10 fat turkeys fooling on a fence.
"Looky!" says a silly turkey, swinging from a vine.
GOBBLE GOBBLE WIBBLE WOBBLE whoops! Now there are...9.
It's a lesson in simple subtraction, and one we enjoy reading after Halloween. It's not a Thanksgiving book per se, there is no mention of the holiday, or even the season. It just a fun, nonsense book for little tykes.
Book Review: Makes my toddler laugh Summary: 4 Stars
This silly, cute turkey counting book has nice pictures. It is a countdown of 10 silly turkeys each showing off for each other and then falling off the fence they are sitting on. I always like books that rhyme and my 21 month old laughs at every page (I think because each page says something like "uh oh" or "oopsy" as the turkey falls off the fence) though I'm not entirely sure why and I don't think he gets much of what's going on, he loves the rhyming and the actions I do and the pictures and the exclaimations. I just love hearing him laugh so I read this over and over.
Book Review: Nonsense delight! Summary: 4 Stars
I love this book because it is funny, teaches subtracting, and because I can use it to discuss with children--"What do you think happened?" I love the illustrations and bright colors used. And any fun book with a way to teach another lesson is an added bonus!
Book Review: 10 Fat Turkeys Summary: 2 Stars
While the book is cute - it arrived with the binding bent and mangled. It was originally going to be a gift - it went into a pile of books headed for a preschool. I wish it had been mailed in at least a padded envelope.
There are not very many fun books about Thanksgiving, and while the story line is really basic, the illustrations made me smile.
